Dr. Joshua Tan's Coronaviruses vs. Fusion Peptides Study
Dr. Joshua Tan, head researcher in the Antibody Unit at the NIH National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases, has been selected as a finalist for the 2023 Michelson Philanthropies & Science Prize for Immunology for his essay titled "Searching for a Common Ground."
Dr. Tan's research aims to understand the human immune response to infectious pathogens, including the severe respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), by studying monoclonal antibodies. His groundbreaking work has the potential to make significant contributions to the development of treatments for infectious diseases.
This prize encourages Dr. Tan to continue his research with the same level of efficiency and collaboration as the scientists and immunologists who worked together to develop treatments for COVID-19 at an unprecedented pace.
About Michelson Philanthropies & Science Prize for Immunology:
The Michelson Philanthropies & Science Prize for Immunology is a $30K Grand Prize and $10K Finalist Prizes awarded annually to support promising early career investigators focused on transformative research in human immunology, with trans-disease applications to accelerate vaccine and immunotherapeutic discovery.
The 2024 Michelson Prizes will look for research aimed at tackling the current roadblocks that exist in human vaccine development and expanding our limited understanding of key immune processes that are fundamental to successful vaccine and immunotherapy development.
